INTERNATIONAL OLYMPICS COMMITTEE (IOC)

        INTERNATIONAL OLYMPICS COMMITTEE (IOC) is a non governmental sports organization. It was founded in the year of 1894 by Barron Pierre de Coubertin. He is called the father of modern Olympics games.

  • Head Quarters: Lausanne, Switzerland.
  • First President is Demetrios Vikelas.
  • Moto: Latin words “Citius, Altius, Fortus” that means “Faster, Higher, Stronger”.
  • Mascot: starting from the year 1968.
  • Olympics Flame : Starting from 1936.
  • Types of Olympics: 1. Summer Olympics games, 2. Paralympics games, 3. Winter Olympics games. 4. Summer Young Olympics games, 5. Winter Young Olympics game.
  • 1st Olympics games played on 23rd  June 1896 (Summer Olympics) in Athens, Greece.
  • Olympics Day is celebrating on 23rd  June. 
  • Symbol of Olympics: It is the 5 interlinked rings with each others which was designed by Pierre de Coubertin. They are Blue, Yellow, Black, Green and Red they are signifies the five continents of earth that is Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Australia. The symbol is accepted by the committee in the year of 1914 and it was first time flown in 1920 in Belgium Olympics games.
  • In the year 1936 the Summer Olympics was first time telecast on television. The Olympics flame made its first appearance in this year.
  • The female athletes was first time participated in the Olympics game in 1900 in Paris.
  • The Summer Olympics was canceled 3 times- 1916, 1940 and 1944 and postponed one time in 2020 to 2021.
  • In 2024 Paris Olympics 4 games has been newly added, they are - Breaking, Surfing, Sport climbing and Skate-boarding.
  • International Olympics Committee(IOC) has accepted the recommendation to include T-20 Cricket in 2028 Olympics in Los-Angeles, USA. Before this, Cricket was last played in the Olympics in 1900 in Paris.
  • In the Olympics 2028 in Los-Angeles, USA total five games will be include they are Baseball-Softball, Cricket, Flag Football, Lacrosse and Squash.

WINTER OLYMPICS

  • 1st  Winter Olympics game was played on 1924 in Chamonix, France.
  • 1st Summer Young Olympics was played in Singapore in 2010.
  • 1st Winter Young Olympics played in Innsbruk in 2012.
  • The Winter Olympics was canceled 2 times- 1940 and 1944
  • The Winter Olympics was telecast on television in 1956, Italy.
  • Until 1992 the Winter Olympics and The Summer Olympics were held in same year. After that from 1994 they has been organized separately in gaping of every 2 years.
